Claire Barry, chief conservator at the Kimbell Art Museum, will present Exploring the Techniques of Paintings in Art and Love in Renaissance Italy. This is part of the museum’s Art in Context series of lectures. Exploring the Techniques of Paintings will be at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in the Kimbell’s auditorium. This is a free lecture.
Ms. Barry will focus on a select group of works, including Titian’s Venus and the Luteplayer. She will discuss the use of tempera, mixed media and oil.
Ms. Barry has contributed essays on technical studies of European old master paintings to multiple publications. Since 1992 Ms. Barry has headed the joint paintings conservation program between the Kimbell Art Museum and the Amon Carter Museum.
