The staff at the Museum of Fine Art, Houston (MFAH), have completed installation of Vertical Arc by Bernar Venet (b. 1941). Vertical Arc is on load to the MFAH from a private collection through 2009. The sculpture is located in the Lillie and Hugh Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden.

Vertical Arc, made of corten steel, stands 26’8″ high, consists of eleven rods arching 82.5 degrees and weighs 10 tons. The installation required a team of experts from the MFAH, professional staff of art handlers and conservators, in addition to consultants from Haynes Whaley Engineering and McRay Crane and Rigging.

In 2005 Venet received the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, France’s highest recognition for achievement in the arts. Venet’s sculptures have been placed in major cities around the world including Basel, Brussels, Chicago, Cologne, Denver, Geneva, Luxembourg, New York and Paris.
