Special Summer Programs at the Dallas Museum of Art

This June through August, the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) will roll out several special programs including cinema in the galleries, block parties, Wi-Fi tours, map of the stars and free admission on Wednesdays in July.

Cinema in the Galleries

The DMA will present the Summer Spotlight tour. Visitors can experience romance, drama, action and mystery of great works of art as seen through a cinematic lens. The museum will highlight 30 of its masterworks (old favorites and new acquisitions) for viewers to experience great art in a different way.

The movie genres will include love and romance, action and adventure, drama and horror, mystery and suspense. They will be seen on levels 2, 3 and 4 of the DMA. Examples of films to be shown are Vishnu as Varaha for action and adventure, Woodbury Langdon and Sara Sherburne Langdon for love and romance. And Lighthouse Hill for horror.

Late Night Summer Block Parties

On the third Friday of the month, June 19, July 17 and August 21, visitors can celebrate the Arts District with a Late Night Summer Block Party.  From 6:00 p.m. until midnight, for $10 or less, come to the DMA, the Nasher Sculpture Center and the Crow Collection of Asian Art to enjoy outdoor films, concerts, strolling musicians, parades, artist demonstrations, Arts District tours, and family activities. Stay late for movie trivia, DJs in the galleries, and  Soundtrack Karaoke. For a full schedule, visit

As part of a summer experiment, the DMA has compiled new materials on selected works of art that can be accessed via their Wi-Fi enabled phone or media player. Materials include video clips, audio excerpts, images and much more. Visitors without a Wi-Fi phone or media player can borrow one from the DMA Visitor Service Desk.

Map of the Stars

The museum will also provide a special gallery map to all the DMA Stars featured in the special programs.

Free Admission

In addition to free admission on the first Tuesdays and Thursday evening, the DMA will offer free admission on all five Wednesdays in July.
