Dallas Art News owner and managing editor, Michael Roman, has completed his linoleum block print for the McKinney Avenue Contemporary (MAC) Membership Exhibit 2009. The MAC is celebrating fifteen years since opening and made the number fifteen the theme for the exhibit. Drop-off deadline for art work is Saturday, July 25, between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. The MAC Membership Exhibit starts with a reception on Aug.1 and runs through Aug. 29.

Mr. Roman created a linoleum block print of fifteen celebrities who died in 1994. The block print is titled Dearly Departed, 1994. The final work is printed on Arches 100% cotton rag paper using oil based ink.

Celebrities who did not make the block but still departed in 1994 include the following:

  • Tip O’Neill, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives
  • Jack Kirby, comic book writer and illustrator
  • Dinah Shore, actress and singer
  • George Peppard, actor (A-Team)
  • Dick Sargent, actor (Bewitched)
  • Jessica Tandy, actress
  • Burt Lancaster, actor

This is the largest single linoleum block print Mr. Roman has ever completed. The block is 9 x 12 inches. Each celebrity gets about 2.4 x 3 inches. Mr. Roman usually works with a 5 x 7 block.

Name that Celebrity
