Exhibition Dates: July 25 – August 25, 2009
mod.shop gallery presents a student exhibition featuring drawings from Collin County Community College students. Professor Christa Diepenbrock Ziman helped students develop a thematic approach to their work using pastel. The show is a combination the best efforts students put forth during the school semester.
Teaching during this last year at Collin County Community College, Profession Ziman has organized a thought provoking exhibition of work done by her Drawing II students. Each student was employed to create a series of work that went beyond the typical “realistic” reality. Exploring a contemporary approach to art, students begin to develop more than just their ability to draw, but their ability to inspire, influence, and define their reality.
Student’s work ranges from abstract to realism with a twist. Kristin Flores enlarged several parts of DeKooning’s work creating beautiful suggestions of a lone house. In six interchangeable drawings, Anna Lyons created the pure essences of a tree in vibrate spring, summer, fall and evening colors. Kressent Rhodes made one realistic composition only to strip it of realism and add color and texture. Inspired by Ansel Adams and Dr. Seuss, Mathew Sanford developed highly charged color landscapes. Highly technologically skilled, Susan Wiedner made a comment on the death crosses that mark the side of roads where accidents have taken place. Lindi-Joy Wilmot used words to create an architectural blue print of her leaving the nest. Other students included in the exhibition are Justin Jamieson, Brianne Klitgaard, Ying Liang and Elizabeth Rivera
