Final Late Night Block Party for Dallas Museums

The Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Museum of Art and Nasher Sculpture Center will throw the last Late Night Summer Block Party from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday, August 21, 2009. Admission to the Dallas Museum of Art is $10 or less; free at the Crow Collection and Nasher Sculpture Center.

The Dallas Museum of Art goes to the movies this summer and invites you to view works in our collections through a cinematic lens. Summer nights shine as the Dallas Museum of Art, Crow Collection of Asian Art, and Nasher Sculpture Center celebrate the stars of their collections.


Dinner and a Show
6:00–6:45 p.m., Atrium, DMA
Escape the heat and enjoy dinner and cool drinks in the Atrium Café while watching The Twilight Zone. In this classic episode, a young Robert Duvall discovers another world unfolding in front of him inside a museum dollhouse.

Arts District Outdoor Performances

Bollywood Music

Enjoy listening to the contagious tempo of the Bollywood beat.

The Bollywood dance craze comes to the Dallas Arts District. Come and watch our dancers as they demonstrate the latest dance craze that is a combination of Indian classical and Western hip-hop. Who knows, you may pick up a few new steps yourself.

Experience the sounds of Indian percussion with the internationally renowned group Brahmah.

Hear Dallas’s hottest poets or share some of your own verses. Hosted by Tisha Crear of Reciprocity. Readings may contain adult themes and language. Spoken word performances only; no instruments allowed.


FREE Friday Night Films in the Garden
The Princess Bride

9:00 p.m., Nasher Sculpture Center

Bring a blanket and join us in the Garden for a screening of The Princess Bride, a clever fairy tale for all ages. A classic tale of love and adventure, the beautiful princess Buttercup is kidnapped and held against her will in order to marry the cowardly Prince Humperdinck, while her true love Westley attempts to save her. On his quest, he encounters dashing heroes, rhyming giants, shrieking eels, rodents of unusual size, and fancy swordfights. (Rated PG) Nasher Café will be open for dinning al fresco on the Terrace. Food, drinks, and lawn furniture may not be brought into the Center.

Rear Window (1960)

Starring Grace Kelly and a wheelchair-bound James Stewart as a pair of accidental peeping Toms, Alfred Hitchcock’s suspense classic takes on one of Edward Hopper’s more ominous themes: looking through a window into the private, often sinister world next door. (This film is not rated; 112 minutes) Promotional support provided by Dallas Film Society.

Join Bruce Jenkins, Professor of Film, Video, and New Media at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as he examines the long shadows cast by film, video, and digital media across the visual arts.
