Subroutine by Gary Perrone
Aug. 15 – Sept. 30, 2009
Artist Reception: Aug. 15, 2009, 6 – 9 p.m.
mod.shop Gallery will host an artist reception showcasing the works of Dallas based artist Gary Perrone. Surviving and living with HIV has inspired Perrone to create works of art that fuss the figure to his “infinitesimally small” mark making.
Gary Perrone has been battling HIV for the last twenty years. He believes that creating/painting helps him in his fight against the life threatening disease. Perrone wrote “Art can be therapeutic, but I prefer to think of it as a metaphysical journey I take each time I pick up a pencil, brush or chisel.” Perrone manipulates the medium in order to capture the light, color and rhythms that compose mindscapes. Mindscapes are the concentration of all his thoughts, words, moods, emotions and memories to create expressive figures. He strives to capture the sensation of being vast as well as infinitesimally small.
Perrone, a Dallas resident since 1990, became a disciple of graphic design upon obtaining a BFA from the University of Hartford/Hartford Art School in 1983. Since then he has been a designer and art director in both New York City and Dallas and is currently a Senior Art Director for FKM, an advertising agency in Dallas.
Gallery artists Todd Camplin and Christa Diepenbrock’s work will also be on display during this exhibition. MFA Candidate Camplin work abstracts text into an object/image on paper. Diepenbrock, MFA work consists of small personal hand-made collage studies and larger acrylic collaged paintings.
mod.shop Gallery is located at 5840 Alpha Road #B, Dallas, Texas 75240.
