About the Ice House Cultural Center
The historic Ice House building was built in 1908, and served as a major ice supplier in Oak Cliff during the 1920s. In 1997, the Ice House was converted into a cultural center under the administration of the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, and sponsored in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts. The center has served Oak Cliff and neighboring communities for over a decade offering diverse arts and cultural programming some of which includes dance classes, music lessons, art exhibitions, artist workshops, summer camps, mural art projects, and cultural festivities. In September 2009, the Ice House Cultural Center will close its doors and will reemerge in 2010 as the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, located at 223 E. Jefferson Blvd., next door to the historic Texas Theater.
