Brigitte von Ahn

Brigitte von Ahn was born April 30, 1950 in Luebeck, Germany. She has resided in the United States since 1990.

At the early age of five, her mother taught her how to draw, mainly by giving her projects. Later during her formal school education, Brigitte chose the visual arts as a major subject, and enjoyed the teachings by several young and experiment-oriented art teachers who had graduated from the renowned art school in Hamburg, Germany, (Kunstschule Lerchenfeld). However, as a means to make a living, art was not an option, so she had an almost twenty-one years career in the aviation business with British Airways. Further art training was done “on the side,” with small commissions now and then.

After moving to El Paso in 1990, she was able to dedicate a good amount of time to her love affair with painting. She took watercolor classes with Bill Bissell, broadened her experiences with Wyn Korff in her critique classes, and enjoyed workshops with several artists from around the country. In the early spring of 1997, her friend Dorothea Pfeffer from Germany, with whom she had done smaller art projects in earlier years, introduced her to the ancient art of encaustic painting.

Brigitte’s first gallery show opened September of 1997 at Wings Galleries in El Paso. Since then Brigitte has participated in more than 20 exhibits, among them the 1st International Encaustic Exhibit in Munich, Germany, in 1998, and shows in Cd. Juarez, Mexico (EXPO Arte, Borderartists).

Brigitte is a life-long member and past-president (2001) of the El Paso Art Association, charter member of the Pastel Society of El Paso, honorary member of the El Paso chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters and a member of the National League of American Pen Women, of which she was the president of the Border Branch 2006 till 2008.

Her work is represented by Galerie Kartis in the Mesilla Valley Mall, Las Cruces, New Mexico (575-521-3904) and in her own gallery “Encaustic International Art Studio & Gallery”, 7100 Westwind, Suite 120, El Paso, Texas 79912. (915-581-4737)
