The 4th Wall Gallery in Dallas, Texas is pleased to announce the January 14, 2010 opening of a solo show by Glenn Barr, with additional works by THH70. Both artists will be in attendance at the opening which will run from 7 – 10 p.m. The show’s run will conclude on February 6, 2010.
Glenn Barr’s robots, creatures, and vixens live in a seedy yet swinging 1960’s universe, drenched in the haze of a post industrial hangover. Barr has used elements of pop culture to infuse familiarity to an otherwise parallel reality, where angels and devils alike share the same urban playground. With a nod to pulp art and cartooning, Barr’s paintings are mesmerizing in both their simplicity and depth.
Glenn Barr is one of Detroit’s most celebrated and successful underground artist. His paintings have appeared in galleries from Seattle to New York City. Worlds converge in Barr’s soulfully voyeuristic and subliminally strange imagery as his scintillating visions transpire in scenes taken from subversive underworlds and apocalyptic horizons. The interiors are adorned with desembodied cherubs, morally bankrupt vixens from the darker realm of the spiritual world.
Along side these kinky inner sanctums, Barr presents views of the unban landscape as a post-industrial world that could never be or perhaps as a vision of the post nuclear future soon to come. Be it femme fatales or otherworldly scenarios his visuals just might prove him to be this generation’s ultimate erotic/ surrealist painter!
THH70 was born in human form in 1970 in Los Angeles, California, but the persona of his nom de guerre was conceived in 1994 as a stage name for his other career as a recording artist. He is now an accomplished visual artist, with his works in private and corporate collections on every continent. Since 2000, he has sold over 1300 original mixed media pieces, and his website – www.thh70online.com – continues to receive thousands of hits per month.
To date, THH70 has shown in solo and group shows in galleries and museums across the United States and the Caribbean, and has appeared in print and online publications worldwide. THH70 is recognized for his unique artistic approach that he has branded “Lo-Fi Urban Contemporary”, combining crude painterly techniques and utilizing materials and media (that include everything from acrylics and spray paint to household products like Windex and X-14 mildew remover) with his own style of raw illustration and stream-of-consciousness linguistics. This show marks THH70’s first major gallery appearance in Dallas.
