Like Father, Like Son: The Art of Henry Howard Sr. & Jr. is a unique exhibition. Dallas painter, Henry Howard is best known for his murals one of which adorns the wall of the Martin Luther King Jr. Library right in South Dallas.

Mr. Howard has created numerous paintings of life in the African American community. What he didn’t know until his father’s death was that he came by his talent, as the old folks would say, “honestly” when he discovered a closet full of paintings, drawings, and prints created by his father. This surprising discovery led Henry to delve into his father’s artistic life which it seems was stifled in large part due to segregation and the minimal opportunities afforded Black artists in pre-1960 America.

This exhibition is Henry’s tribute to his late father and the talent he passed on to his son.
