SMU Meadows Summer Art Academy
Posted Friday, May 21, 2010
SMU’s Summer Art Academy offers a unique experience for high school students who intend to study art at the university level. Hosted by the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU, the Academy welcomes high school artists to work in studios alongside SMU art students, in courses taught by SMU’s art faculty with additional support from MFA students. Small class size and spacious studio facilities ensure each student receives personal attention and freedom to grow as an artist.
SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts provides a challenging and rich environment for artistic exploration. At the heart of our students’ preparation for a professional career in art is the acquisition of foundational skills, the exercise of imaginative freedom, and a strengthening of self-knowledge. SMU’s Summer Art Academy invites you to step inside our studios for a truly transformative week as a member of our artistic community.
The Academy takes place over one week. Academy artists select one of four course offerings for their studio program – Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, or Digital Photography. Studio sessions will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and will be followed by lunch and an afternoon program including field trips to museums, commercial art galleries, and artists’ studios led by expert docents and professional artists. The program culminates with an Academy exhibition and reception on Saturday afternoon.
Enrollment is limited to 6 students in each course, so please reserve your space as soon as possible by completing and returning your registration form to the Division of Art at SMU. For registration forms and more information, please visit smu.edu/artacademy .
