About Elizabeth Maker
While practicing dentistry in 2001, Elizabeth Maker was stricken by the spirit to start painting in oils. At first she investigated the idea of painting and then later, combining her good sense of observation and color combinations with her new found desire, she started her first paintings. Perhaps she was influenced from her father who was an artist in ornamentation. Now that she had submersed herself in this new found world, it was not long before Elizabeth began her studies at Talentos, a fine arts academy widely recognized in Colombia. This is where she met Galatea Galkiewitcz, a renowned professional artist in Bogota who became her mentor and personal teacher in the techniques of painting in oils.
Elizabeth’s artwork is governed by her intimate and personal perspectives of the search for inner spiritual expressions, connecting her to the inner worlds. Elizabeth’s greatest inspiration comes from expressing, through painting, a path of discipline, meditation and a commitment to herself, leading her to create different geometric holistic shapes; thus providing a mix of colors and shapes, immersing her mind in a universe of healing, peace, harmony and joy. Elizabeth continues to develop under a unique technique using Bamboo and “caña flecha”; artisans belonging to a specific region of Colombia. Elizabeth only recently moved to El Paso from Bogota, Colombia. While a registered Prosthodontict in her native country “Baby Doll”, as she is affectionately called by her son and husband, has always had the urge to move her inner being to the canvas. As can be seen by her painting “Living in the Security of the Red Planet” Elizabeth has touched her inner being.
