The mission of the Creative Arts Center of Dallas is to provide a nurturing environment for people to discover, develop and express their artistic vision. CAC was founded as a public arts center in 1963 in El Sibil, the studio of renowned Western artist Frank Reaugh (1860-1945).  Led by sculptor Octavio Medellin, CAC remained in its Oak Cliff location until the early 80s.  In addition to the traditional arts of drawing, painting and clay figurative, CAC has since added ceramics, mosaic, jewelry, fused glass, metal arts, stone carving, photography and printmaking. CAC is located four miles east of downtown Dallas on a two-acre campus off of Ferguson Road in a converted elementary school building built by the WPA during the Great Depression.  Last year, 1,600 students took over 350 classes and workshops at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas.  The Center also has an active children’s outreach program, including such programs as unseenamerica, Camp MetalHead and after school programming to DISD through a partnership with Big Thought.  CAC also hosts figure drawing sessions for the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts students.
