How would you visually represent something that is only heard? Over 45 local and regional artists responded to this question when answering the open call to artists for the themed exhibit titled “Echo” presented by Laura Moore Fine Art Studios. Over 100 works of art representing the theme of echo were selected to be a part of this juried art exhibit.
Each artist’s interpretation of the echo theme is as varied as the resultant art mediums utilized. Echoes may be seen in the repeating shapes and colors of abstract canvases, in one object mimicking another in photography, realism and impressionist paintings and with subject matters like haunting figures and faces that reverberate across the surface of drawings and 3-dimensional art. Conceptual echoes informed artists to draw inspiration from sources as varied as the velveteen rabbit to mother’s words of advice. Sounds are explored visually throughout the exhibit evoked from past ceremonies of ancient civilizations, a bird’s cry, guitars, iPods, revving Harleys and coursing waterfalls. This exhibit presents a rare opportunity to see the upshot of a common theme approached from differing paradigms.
Even the exhibit itself depicts the theme, occurring in two locations, Laura Moore Fine Art Studios and echoing into temporary art space at the McKinney Performing Arts Center just 40 steps north of the gallery. Opening night for Echo is Saturday, August 14th 7-10pm at Laura Moore Fine Art Studios, 107 S Tennessee and at MPAC, 111 N Tennessee. The exhibit will be on display in both locations through September 8th. Gallery hours in both locations are Mon-Sat 1-5pm or by appointment. www.lauramooreart.com 214.914.3630
