Creativity Unleashed with a Tribute to African Americans of the Civil War

Irving Black Arts Council’s (IBAC) celebration of Black History Month will begin January 30, 2011 with three free family-oriented events. IBAC’s celebration will recognize the vast expanse of visual creativity through mixed media as well pay tribute to the African Americans who fought in the Civil War.

Creativity Unleashed opens Sunday, January 30, 2011 in the Main Gallery at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd in Irving.

The free artists reception for Creativity Unleashed will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 5-7pm in the Main Gallery of the Irving Arts Center.

This dynamic mixed media art exhibit will feature local artists: Mathew Jacob Barnes, Erica Davis,Valarie Evans,Marcello Pope,Dr. Charles V. Shelton Jr.,Tonia Witherspoon and Alisha Young.

IBAC in partnership with the City of Irving will also present its annual Black History program. This year’s theme will focus on the African Americans who fought in the Civil War. The one-hour program featuring students from Irving area schools will be presented on Tuesday, February 15 at 7pm. A reception will immediately follow after the program.

All events are family-oriented and free.
