Ability Connection Texas (ACT) is proud to host the Society of Hope Reception highlighting the artwork of Troy Parker on April 6, 2011 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Gremillion & Co, Fine Art Inc. in the Dallas Design District.
The April Artists’ Showplace gallery exhibition, “Applause and Accolades,” will feature the work of gallery partners’ mentors – their teachers and those who’ve they’ve aspired to emulate over the years. The show runs April 7–30. A free reception at Artists’ Showplace on Friday, April 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. will include live music by Paul Utay and Jazz After All, wine and hors d’oeuvres.
The Menil Collection museum and a group of surrounding non-profit arts organizations come together on Saturday, April 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to host a free afternoon of art and entertainment that will extend across the Menil “campus” from West Alabama to Richmond Avenue. Highlighting the diversity of the Menil neighborhood arts community, the festival will include films and performances, from a drum circle to literary readings, art sales, a book fair and art workshops.
There’s still time to come out and see Texas Discovery Gardens’ latest art exhibit, which ends April 24. Earth, Petal, Wing showcases the interpretation of natural subject matter by Cynthia Padilla and Julio Suarez, Texas-based artists who share a passion for nature and the natural sciences and an appreciation for the fragility and simple beauty found in nature.
On May 14, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art presents the work of contemporary photographer Subhankar Banerjee (b. 1967) in the exhibition Subhankar Banerjee: Where I Live I Hope to Know. In the exhibition, visitors will see 17 large-scale photographs, some displayed at unusual angles, taken within a 5-mile radius of the artist’s home near Santa Fe, N.M., from 2006–09. The photographs, which serve as poignant hallmarks of the close proximity of global transformation to the artist’s home, are on view through August 28. Admission is free.
David M. Stone, professor of art history at the University of Delaware, Newark, will present a free lecture titled Guercino’s ‘Christ and the Woman of Samaria’ and the Heroic Style, 1617-21 on Friday, April 8, at 6 p.m., in the Kimbell Art Museum auditorium.
Alison Jardine: Intermittent Light opens at the Laura Moore Fine Art Studios in downtown McKinney, Texas, on Saturday, April 9, 2011. There will be an artist reception that evening from 7 to 10 p.m.
Kevin Lewis Fougerousse: Memoirs at RO2 Arts is an intimate look at the artist’s thoughts on life, spirituality, love and loss. Memoirs is on view through March 29.
The McKinney Avenue Contemporary (The MAC) announces the departure of Director Liliana Bloch. Liliana submitted her resignation as Director on Friday, March 4, 2011, due to health concerns. Mrs. Bloch has been associated with the MAC for six years, serving three years as a member of the Board of Directors, followed by an additional three years as Director/Curator of the MAC.

While others flock to the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) and the Nasher Sculpture Center, try venturing to a place where you can actually take home the art!
