Theme of this year’s contest is “Saturate”. The deadline to enter is Saturday, April 23, 2011.

As part of their effort to support and encourage the artistic experience of students in Dallas/Ft. Worth and the surrounding area, Kenny Goss and his partner, pop star George Michael, are pleased to announce the fifth annual Student Art Contest, “Saturate”, sponsored by The Goss-Michael Foundation.

This opportunity is open to all public and private high school students in Dallas/Ft. Worth and the surrounding areas who are enrolled in the 9th through 12th grade and excel in the disciplines of photography, drawing, painting, and mixed media.

This year’s contest, “Saturate”, requires students to explore and experiment with the chroma of color. Each contestant is free to choose their own subject matter, but they must create a work of art that illustrates the progression of color from high to low saturation. Judges will be looking for creativity, technique and execution.

Contestants must submit an original photograph, drawing, painting or mixed media. Should they choose to submit a photograph, it must be a color or black and white original, unframed image with a minimum size of 8″ x 10″ and maximum size of 20″ x 24″. Submitted drawings and paintings must be unframed with a minimum size of 8″ x 10″ and maximum size of 20″ x 24″. Matting is required for all flat media entries. Only one entry per person will be accepted (see attached rules for complete information).

A $400 U.S. Savings Bond will be awarded to one contestant in each of the following categories: photography, painting, mixed media or drawing, and one contestant will receive a $650 U.S. Savings Bond for Best in Show. In addition, the winners will be featured in the Foundation’s monthly newsletter and on the Web site, www.gossmichaelfoundation.org.

All entries must be delivered to The Goss-Michael Foundation no later than 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. The winners of the contest will then be selected by a distinguished art professional. Finalists’ work will be displayed at The Goss-Michael Foundation May 3 – 14.

All awards will be presented, and the finalists will be recognized at a special awards reception on Saturday, May 14 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at The Goss-Michael Foundation. Finalists and their families will enjoy refreshments and a live concert by local band, Critic Feed. All entries must be picked up by May 21.
