The Dallas Museum of Art announced they will have a free weekend to celebrate the retirement of Bonnie Pitman, former Eugene McDermott Director. The free weekend will be on Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, October 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to free admission, the Dallas Museum of Art will also honor Ms. Pitman with a full weekend of activities.
Bonnie Pitman was the Deputy Director from 2000-2007 and the Eugene McDermott Director from 2008-2011. Ms. Pitman decided to retire in May 2011 due to health reasons (see Dallas Museum of Art Director Bonnie Pitman to Step Down in May 2011).
Dallas Art News was fortunate enough to interview Ms. Pitman in May (see A Few Minutes with Outgoing Dallas Museum of Art Director Bonnie Pitman).
Admission for Sunday, October 2, was generously underwritten by patrons Nancy and Tim Hanley.
On October 1, 2011, the Nasher Sculpture Center will be having their monthly Target First Saturdays. The Nasher has activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Crow Collection of Asian Art is always free. Both the Nasher and the Crow Collection are right next to the Dallas Museum of Art. This would be a great time to see all three museums for free.
