The Texas Hill Country has a new celebrity resident. The much-talked-about bovine sculpture, Moosic Capital, created by artist Sharon Roy Finch, is now on display in the lobby of Horseshoe Bay Resort.
Douglas Jaffe III, chief executive officer at Horseshoe Bay Resort, purchased the colorful barnyard creature at an auction benefiting Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. “I knew about the auction and of course the cows,” said Jaffe. “My family and Horseshoe Bay Resort support several children’s charities and this one is near and dear to my heart. Moosic Capital is a symbol of our dedication to helping charitable foundations that benefit children.”
Finch, the designer of the coveted cow, created Moosic Capital for the Austin-based art project CowParade. The sculpture is a creative representation of all things Texas, but more specifically Austin, where Finch has twice been selected as Local Artist of the Year by the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau. In tribute, one side of the heifer depicts the view of the Austin skyline from Lady Bird Lake as well as a longhorn adorned with a cap sporting Austin’s motto, “Keep Austin Weird.”
Horseshoe Bay Resort is pleased to share Moosic Capital with the thousands of Club Members, hotel guests and visitors who come through the Resort each year. This fun and unexpected conversation piece will be on permanent display beginning November 18, 2011.
“The side depicting the scene of the Austin skyline, as viewed from Lady Bird Lake, was taken from a photo I shot while walking along the lake. Awed by the play of light on the buildings, I somehow didn’t notice an enormous, Loch Ness-like dog emerging from the water until after I had taken the picture,” said artist Sharon Roy Finch.
“For ‘Moosic Capital’ and for the fun of it, I chose to switch out the dog for a longhorn and gave him a ‘Keep Austin Weird’ cap. I even called for permission to use the logo.”
“Perhaps the most fun for me was the use of rubber stamps I used courtesy of Hobby Lobby, ‘the mother ship’ where I often go for materials. There are musical notes on both sides of the cow, pouring out of the longhorn’s mouth, and if one looks closely the leaves of the trees are made up of musical notes as well.”
“There was of course a dinner party in her honor, the weekend before she was delivered.”
