The El Paso Museum of Art presents Artists on Art with David Quintanilla on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. This event is free to the public.

Artists on Art – located at the El Paso Museum of Art (EPMA) provides local artists an opportunity to exhibit one work of art in any media accompanied by a 30 minute discussion on their work and its relation to the Museum’s permanent collection. There are six exhibits per year and the work is exhibited for a two-month period. Artists interested in being featured in Artists on Art are encouraged to contact Christian Gerstheimer, Curator at (915) 532-1707 x 20.

David Quintanilla was born in 1983 and currently lives and works in El Paso, Texas.  He is a photographer mostly known in the southwest for his surreal portraiture. His celebrity and fashion work has included Hilary Clinton, Kim Kardashian, Ty Pennington as well as politicians, athletes, and models.

Quintanilla stages his provocative photographs to juxtapose past with present and to reinterpret popular images from the history of art. His tableau photography work is influenced by artists of the Renaissance such as Leonardo Da Vinci as well as contemporary artists such as David LaChapelle and continually seeks to push the boundaries of the norm in the cultural realm.

Quintanilla studied at the Art Institute of Phoenix form 2001-2003 and at Arizona State University in 2004. In 2010 a collection of his work was published in the book entitled Complicated Artists. Quintanilla has exhibited his work in New York, New Mexico, Arizona, El Paso and on the artist’s website

Parking is available at the Convention Center Parking Garage, Mills Plaza Parking Garage and the Camino Real Hotel for a fee. Limited metered parking is available on Main Street.
