The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Announces Summer Art Camp and Art Study at the Modern

The Modern’s unique programs for young artists emphasize learning through direct observation of art and thoughtful art activities inspired by the current exhibition. This introduces students to some of the complex and challenging concepts and practices behind modern and contemporary art. Distinguished area artists are invited to design and lead art activities based on the art in the galleries. Activities encompass everything from art making in the traditional sense to interdisciplinary exploration. This year’s Art Camp focuses on works in the Modern’s permanent collection, while Summer Art Study looks at both works in the Modern’s collection as well as the special exhibition Lucian Freud: Portraits.

Grouped by age and accompanied by their counselor, art campers spend time in the galleries and on the grounds exploring the art and architecture, followed by time in the Museum studio where they work with two artists each session. Instructors provide enriching opportunities to process, apply, and respond to ideas formed in relation to the art on view. The last day of camp ends with a reception and display of the campers’ artwork to celebrate their creative accomplishments with families and friends. Campers make exciting discoveries concerning art, the world, and themselves through Art Camp at the Modern.

This year we have changed the age groups. Art Camp is now for ages five to 14 and Summer Art Study is for ages 15 to 17. We also have a new camp just for five-year-olds! Our volunteer program returns as well and this year we are accepting applicants ages 18 and older.

General registration online at begins Friday, March 2.
