Museum of New Mexico Foundation Announces Artist Call for Entries

Friends of Contemporary Art (FOCA), a support group of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, is pleased to announce its biennial juried exhibition, Art on the Edge, to be hosted by the New Mexico Museum of Art in 2013. Artists based in New Mexico or surrounding states–Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona–are invited to submit work online for consideration.

The deadline for submission is April 30, 2012, 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Time). Information and a prospectus may be downloaded from www.nmartmuseum.org/artontheedge.

The 2013 Art on the Edge biennial will be juried by Toby Kamps, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at The Menil Collection, Houston, Texas. Prior to assuming his role at the Menil Colleciton, Kamps was senior curator of the Contemporary Art Museum Houston (CAMH). He also served as senior curator at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati and as director of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, Maine, and assistant professor at Maine College of Art. Over the course of his career, Kamps has spotlighted artists working in various media, from painting, sculpture and photography to installation and sound.

Art on the Edge will continue to focus on fewer artists with more fully developed bodies of work. The exhibition will open to the public on January 18, 2013.

Entries and Eligibility

All entries will be accepted via an online service only (Slideroom.com). Submissions are open only to residents of New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, or Arizona. There is a $50 entry fee for up to 12 images. The entry fee is waived for members of Friends of Contemporary Art.

Slideroom.com is open for submissions through April 30, 2012, 11:59pm (Mountain Time). Visit foca.slideroom.com to register and upload works for consideration. Entries are limited to 500 applicants. If we reach 500 applicants ahead of the April 30 deadline, submissions will automatically close even if it is before April 30.

Purchase Prize

In keeping with FOCA’s mission to acquire works of art for the New Mexico Museum of Art, a purchase prize for work or works with a value up to $4,000 will be chosen from the exhibition for the Museum’s contemporary art collection.
