Christie’s to Offer the Art Collection of Van Cliburn

One of Texas’s favorite sons, world-acclaimed pianist Van Cliburn, will offer over 150 exceptional works from his personal collection at Christie’s New York. Reflecting Mr. Cliburn’s refined taste and the private passion of a sophisticated connoisseur, the collection comprises historically important and rare examples of English furniture and silver, Russian Art, a country where he remains revered today, and Jewels. With estimates ranging from US$1,000 to US$250,000, the total sale is expected to achieve in excess of US$3 million.

Christie’s is the world’s leading art business and the parent company of Christie’s International Real Estate, the only luxury network wholly owned by an art auction house. Celebrating this synergy between art and real estate, Christie’s and Allie Beth Allman & Associates, the exclusive Affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate in Dallas, will be hosting a special event on April 25, by invitation only, to celebrate the sale of this iconic Texan’s collection.

Van Cliburn said: “From the beginning of my concert life, I would spend my earnings from performances searching for something beautiful of timeless quality to remember different concerts in various cities. I have always found throughout my life that beauty raises your consciousness and provides incalculable inspiration. I hope that some of the beauty that has inspired me for decades will find others who appreciate them as much as I always have.”

Capera Ryan, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Christie’s and based in Dallas, says: “Van Cliburn is recognized as a musical icon around the globe. It is a great honor for Christie’s to offer the superb works of art he has collected over his lifetime. We are equally honored to celebrate him in his home state of Texas, not only for his professional achievements but also for his exquisite taste and keen eye for art, as evidenced by this astounding collection.”

“As the exclusive affiliate for Christie’s in the Dallas area, we are excited to recognize a friend and icon – Van Cliburn. His collector’s taste equals his musical talent. He has an unerring sense of style and classic beauty, whether in silver, furniture, or art. Many of our clients are eager to preview samples from Van’s marvelous collectibles which he has acquired for several decades. We know this will be an historic event as well as fun,” said Allie Beth Allman, President, Allie Beth Allman & Associates.

Van Cliburn is one of America’s greatest pianists ever and a persuasive ambassador for American culture. Since his historic 1958 victory at the first International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Mr. Cliburn has reached across political frontiers with his universal message of beautiful music. In that same year, he appeared on the cover of Time Magazine who billed him “The Texan Who Conquered Russia.” Raised in Kilgore, Texas, Van Cliburn was twelve years of age when he made his orchestral debut with the Houston Symphony Orchestra and today remains one of the state’s most revered musicians.
