As part of the new exhibit Awakening our Giants, Celebrating our Firsts: El Paso’s Mayors, the El Paso Museum of History continues the Union Pacific Mayor’s lecture series that will highlight political milestones of past and present Mayors. On Saturday, April 21, 2012 beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the museum Seminar Room former Mayor Larry Francis will give an illustrated talk on The Kress Collection, The Dilemma, The Meeting.
The huge collection of European art assembled by Samuel H. Kress and ultimately administered by the Kress Foundation found its way into 90 institutions in 33 states. The City of El Paso was one of those recipients. Please join former Mayor Larry Francis as he recounts for you the exciting story of this collection and how it was given to the City.
Larry Francis is a graduate of Texas A&M University in Engineering. After serving in the military, he went on to found his own company Francis Communications in 1959. He has served as President and Chairman of SYT Corporation and Allstar Communications, retiring in 1989. As Mayor, he served two terms from 1993 to 1997. Larry keeps himself busy by volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, the United Way, and serving on various boards.
