Original artwork by Dallas-Fort Worth artists will be on display in the soon-to-open NYLO Dallas South Side. The hotel is currently under construction at 1325 South Lamar at Belleview and is set to open in July 2012.
Throughout February and March of this year, local artists submitted artworks to the NYLO Dallas South Side Art Competition, with the hope of having their pieces displayed throughout the hotel. The winning artworks have been selected, all from the vibrant arts community and all complementing the hotel’s interior design. Every NYLO hotel showcases the creativity of local artists by displaying all original artwork throughout each property.
“We conduct a contest whereby artwork created by local, professional, and amateur artists is submitted according to guidelines we provide that aim the artists to submit artwork that reflects the spirit of the NYLO brand and the local community,” says NYLO President & CEO, Mike Mueller. “We believe that by having each NYLO hotel decorated in artwork via this process it enhances both the ambiance and originality of each NYLO hotel and it provides a showcase for talented local artists.”
The artwork selected is a variety of mediums, each bringing something different to the property. The artworks will be displayed throughout various areas of the hotel, including The Loft Bar & Restaurant, the lobby, SODA Bar, and throughout the hallways and guestrooms.
This year, the NYLO Dallas South Side Art Contest attracted over 150 artists who submitted over 400 pieces of artwork. Most of the submitted pieces were photographs and paintings. 55 artists and over 150 original artworks were selected as the winning pieces and will be displayed in the NYLO Dallas South Side hotel.
“We are very pleased with the turnout we had for the NYLO Dallas South Side Art Contest, and we are confident that the artwork selected will help achieve our goal of becoming a boutique hotel that reflects the local community. NYLO Dallas South Side is a unique venture that our guests and the local community will not only be proud of, but embrace and support as a uniquely Dallas experience and destination”, says NYLO Executive Vice President of Operations, Patrick O’Neil.
The NYLO Dallas South Side Hotel will be NYLO’s third property in the DFW market, joining the highly innovative and successful NYLO Hotels in Plano and NYLO Las Colinas. The five-story, 76-room NYLO hotel will be home to a destination roof top infinity pool and the glass-enclosed “SODA” bar and lounge that will offer guests one of the best views of downtown and become the gathering spot in South Dallas. Travelers will find NYLO Dallas South Side the ideal place to conduct business hold a special event or enjoy a rich diversity of music, art, entertainment and cuisine in a uniquely designed, local take on the South Side urban experience.
