Victoria Wyeth is Coming to Tyler Museum of Art

Victoria Wyeth, great-granddaughter of N.C. Wyeth and granddaughter of Andrew Wyeth

Victoria Wyeth

Victoria Browning Wyeth is set to be this year’s guest speaker at the Tyler Museum of Art’s spring fundraiser, La Table des Artistes, on May 31.

Ms. Wyeth is the great-granddaughter of illustrator N.C. Wyeth, the only granddaughter of artist Andrew Wyeth and niece of contemporary realist Jamie Wyeth. As a member of this famous family of twentieth-century artists, she will offer the evening’s guests an intimate view into their lives and works of art.

Her visit and presentation come as a prelude to The Wyeths Across Texas exhibit scheduled to open this September at the Tyler Museum of Art. The Wyeths Across Texas will be the first major exhibition featuring N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth to be presented in Texas in 25 years, when the Dallas Museum of Art hosted An American Vision: Three Generations of Wyeth Art, organized by the Brandywine Museum in Pennsylvania. The TMA exhibit will be made up of approximately 35 works drawn primarily from public and private collections in Texas.

N.C. Wyeth became famous for his illustrations created for Scribner Illustrated Classics, which include Kidnapped, Treasure Island and The Boys King Arthur. His son Andrew Wyeth is regarded as one of the most prominent American realists of the twentieth century. His work Christina’s World in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, is considered one of the most well-known art images throughout the world. Realist Jamie Wyeth, grandson of N.C. and son of Andrew, has put together a diverse body of work over his career, ranging from portraiture of Andy Warhol to seagulls and farm animals in Maine.

In addition to La Table des Artistes, Ms. Wyeth will return to Tyler this fall to celebrate the opening of this exciting exhibition. As a specialist with a unique perspective on the art of her family, she will lead private tours through the exhibit and present a public lecture.

The Wyeths Across Texas will be on view at the Tyler Museum of Art from September 7 through December 9, 2012. After Tyler, the exhibition will travel to the El Paso Museum of Art.
