The Wyeths Across Texas
Tyler Museum of Art
September 7 through December 9, 2012

The Wyeths Across Texas opens at the Tyler Museum of Art on September 7 and will include works by N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth drawn from public and private collections across Texas.

This exciting exhibition will bring to the public and a new generation a rare opportunity to experience works by America’s most famous family of 20th century artists. The Wyeths Across Texas will be the first major exhibition featuring works by N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth to be presented in Texas in 25 years.

On September 7 through September 9, the Museum will offer special tours through the exhibition led by Victoria Wyeth. Ms. Wyeth is the great-grandchild of N.C., only grandchild of Andrew and niece of realist Jamie Wyeth. As a family member, Ms. Wyeth will offer guests an intimate and unique look into the lives and works of these three artists. She will also present a public lecture on Wyeth art on September 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jean Browne Theatre located on the campus of TJC. Tour spots and lecture seats are limited, so call the Museum at (903) 595-1001 or visit tylermuseum.org to purchase tickets today.

An exhibition catalog to commemorate this special exhibition will be published by the TMA and will include an essay by art historian Dr. Henry Adams. Adams, Professor of American Art at Case Western Reserve University, will present the lecture “The Wyeth Family Through Three Generations: The Generations of Genius” on October 28 at 2:00 p.m., sponsored by the Jean and Graham Devoe Williford Charitable Trust.

Dr. Randall Griffin, art history professor at Southern Methodist University, will present the lecture “Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World and the Vulnerable Body” on September 30 at 2:00 p.m. Other events related to this exhibition include First Friday Art Tours, Family Days, Seniors’ Day, children’s art activities and many more.
