The Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County Needs Your Support

The Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County wants you to sign their petition.

The Fort Worth City Council will consider the 2012-2013 budget proposed by the Fort Worth City Manager at the September 11 and 18, 2102, meetings. The budge includes a recommendation to reduce funding to the arts by 25 percent.

The overall decrease of Fort Worth funding for the arts will be nearly 45 percent in the last five years.

The Fort Worth City Council will vote on the budget on September 18.

The Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County wants you to sign their petition to support the arts.

The online petition at change.org states the arts provides nearly $85 million in economic activity to Fort Worth. This activity supports more than 3,000 fill-time jobs and generates $11.2 million in state and local revenue. More than 300,000 young people benefit from after-school programs related to the arts.

As of this posting, the petition has 965 online signatures. The petition needs another 35 signatures.

Update at 7:22 p.m.

Checking the change.org petition website now shows they have 1,024 signatures and still need 476 more. Looks like someone upped the numbers to be on the safe side.
