Japanese photographer Takeshi Shikama will be at Catherine Couturier Gallery for the exhibit opening and book signing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
After attending Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo born Takeshi Shikama pursued a career in the field of design, which subsequently burgeoned into an interest in the photographic arts. In 2002 he began to explore the brooding forests of Japan, resulting in a beautifully hand-crafted collection of platinum prints on gampi, a delicate Japanese paper perfectly suited for the subtlety of Shikama’s work.
Following the success of his previous Silent Respiration of Forests series, Shikama has now aimed his lens stateside, this time focusing on Yosemite National Park, the Pacific Northwest and the urban forests of New York’s Central Park.
