The El Paso Museum of Art announces Contemporary Texas Prints, an exhibition of contemporary printmaking in Texas. The exhibition includes woodcuts, etchings, aquatints, lithographs, linocuts, serigraphs and mono-prints by artists such as David Bates, Luis Jimenez, Donald Judd and James Surls. Contemporary Texas Prints opens Sunday, March 31, 2013, in the Gateway Gallery.

Texas is rich with contemporary printmaking. There is an abundance of printmakers throughout the state. Printmaking is becoming more popular with the changing role of prints in contemporary art and culture. Contemporary Texas Prints displays how artists and collectors are defying traditional hierarchies that once considered printmaking a lesser media.

The El Paso Museum of Art pays close attention to the art of printmaking. The museum has built a strong collection of prints by Texas artists from the 1930s through 1940s. The museum will highlight their collection during the exhibition.

Contemporary Texas Prints runs through September 15, 2013.
