Heritage Auctions, based in Dallas, Texas, will be auctioning an iconic Kennedy Portrait by Richard Avedon in their Photographs Signature Auction on March 23, 2013, in Beverly Hills. The photograph, which is inscribed by the subjects and photographer, is a portrait of President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy taken in 1961. Heritage estimates the photograph to bring between $15,000 to $30,000.
The photography auction also includes a close-up portrait of Pablo Picasso by Irving Penn in 1957. The image shows Picasso with a cowboy-style hat and a coat pulled up close around his face. Picasso’s ever seeing eyes are staring directly back at the viewer. This large gelatin silver print is 22.25 x 22.5 inches. Heritage estimates Penn’s photograph to bring between $60,000 to $80,000.
