Klyde Warren Park’s two new restaurants – Savor, a modern gastropub, and Relish, a grab-and-go burger stand – are now officially open to the public after several weeks of soft opening. Lunch service at Savor begins today, October 18, 2013.
“The response has been tremendous in our first few weeks. We have seen great turnout from the business community during happy hour and have been surprised by the dinner crowds even on weeknights,” said Executive Chef and owner John Coleman. “Dining at Savor augments the existing activity at the park by offering patrons a restaurant experience at the center of one of the city’s top landmarks.”
Savor serves simply prepared, fresh food sourced from top purveyors, offering diners a vibrant combination of flavors. The restaurant provides a chef-driven menu with shared plates in order to infuse beloved pub fare with a modern twist. Menu items include Lobster Puffs with Maine lobster and comte cheese fritter and Roasted Salmon that is lightly smoked, bourbon cured and topped with a fennel and apple chutney.
The gastropub features a keg wall with 12 craft beers and 16 wines on tap, which amounts to approximately 40,000 bottles of wine saved per year. Featured wines include a Blackbird Arriviste rosé, Saintsbury pinot noir and Paul Dolan cabernet.
Relish, Savor’s companion kiosk that originally opened as one of Klyde Warren Park’s food trucks, has now become a permanent fixture located next to the main restaurant. The walk-up window offers quick fare including Coleman’s signature gourmet burgers that are mixed with relish, creating a flavorful, mess-free burger experience, perfect for a picnic in the park. Guests can order a plain burger or be more adventurous with combinations like the corn chow chow or candied jalapeño and tomatillo. Additional menu items include griddle dogs, a variety of fry options and soft serve frozen custard.
Coleman brings 23 years of experience to the Savor and Relish kitchens in his first solo venture. A Boston native, Coleman spent the bulk of his culinary career with the luxury hotel chain The Ritz-Carlton as the Director of Food and Beverage, opening hotels across the world from Oman, Japan to Dallas. Coleman has curated a menu of dynamic tastes and fresh ingredients that he hopes will reflect his culinary philosophy that food is meant to bring people together to enjoy an experience, rather than just a meal. Coleman is joined at Savor by Joe Scigliano, Chef-Partner, whom he worked with at The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas. Scigliano will work alongside Coleman on the menu and curating the keg wall.
The restaurant, as well as the park’s performance pavilion, was designed by noted architect Thomas Phifer. Phifer’s signature design elements of glass and highly reflective surfaces emphasize a connection between the indoors and outdoors. The floor-toceiling glass exterior allows Savor diners full views of the activity in the park. And, the perforated ceiling panels evoke the feeling of sitting underneath tree branches.
“We are thrilled to have Savor and Relish open, which completes the construction in the park as we near our one-year anniversary,” said Tara Green, president of Klyde Warren Park. “We are so proud to see that the restaurant in the park is a beautiful complement to the buildings designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects throughout our Arts District neighborhood.”
The building’s exterior spans approximately 3,100-square-feet and seats around 325 people, with 175 seats inside and 150 seats outside. The restaurant boasts outdoor seating on three of its four sides and a chef’s table at the back of the restaurant for a more intimate dining experience. Bill Johnson of The Johnson Studios completed the restaurant’s interior design.
The pavilion area at Savor is named in honor of Nancy Collins Fisher, wife of Richard Fisher, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
