Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas Announces Auditions

The Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas (CCGD), the official children’s chorus of the Dallas Symphony, announces auditions for the CCGD downtown choruses to be held May 3, 2014 through May 19, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in downtown Dallas.  Auditions are by appointment only.

CCGD’s downtown choruses consist of more than 400 talented students living in 35 cities from 189 schools.  Rehearsals take place on Monday nights during the school year in downtown Dallas, with three concerts each season at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.  Students also take part in other community performances throughout the year, including outreach performances at venues across the city; in addition, students have the opportunity to tour with the ensemble every two years.  During the 2014-15 season, CCGD’s Concert I and II Choruses will each perform with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra on two productions, including the Dallas Symphony Christmas Celebration performances.

Boys and girls going into grades 4-8 are not expected to prepare anything for the audition.  This five-minute audition will consist of vocal and dictation exercises led by CCGD Artistic Director Cynthia Nott.  Young men and women going into grades 9-12 will audition for Nora Henson, CCGD Youth Chorus Conductor, or Kelly Pfaffenberger, CCGD Women’s Chorus Conductor.  The audition will consist of vocalization and sight reading exercises; in addition, participants will be expected to perform a prepared piece (UIL appropriate) or hymn from the participant’s religious tradition.  Repertoire from the Broadway or Pops genres and prerecorded accompaniments are not appropriate for this audition.  An accompanist will be provided; participants are asked to bring the score, book or sheet music for their prepared piece to the audition.

Auditions are by appointment only and will follow the schedule listed on CCGD’s website.  Participants wishing to register for an audition should call the CCGD office at 214-965-0491.  More information, including audition dates and times, is available at

Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas

Now celebrating its 17th season, the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas (CCGD) is one of America’s largest and most prestigious youth choral programs, and serves as the official children’s chorus of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Cynthia Nott, CCGD is dedicated to providing Dallas-area young people with opportunities to study and perform choral music at the highest level of artistic excellence, in a group that reflects the region’s ethnic and economic diversity. CCGD’s nine choral ensembles serve more than 500 children and teens in grades 4–12, drawn from 35 communities throughout a 33-mile radius of downtown Dallas. Approximately 4,500 patrons annually attend CCGD’s season concerts, held at Dallas’ world-class Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. Through ancillary regional performances, national and international tours, and community engagement initiatives—including Outreach Chorus Tours, Summer Singing Camp, and learning partnerships with the Dallas Independent School District—CCGD extends the enrichment of choral music to up to 24,000 additional children, youth, and adults each year.
