Barry Whistler Gallery presents Darryl Lauster: A Magpie and a Rainbow. The exhibit is part of a continued investigation into American history and contemporary culture. Lauster presents several multimedia kinetic sculptures in this latest exhibition, which is on view through April 26, 2014.

A Magpie and a Rainbow included dioramas, coin-operated tableaus, carnival rides and hobbyist model making.

Darryl Lauster

Lauster is an Intermedia artist. He is an Assistant Professor of Sculpture at the University of Texas at Arlington. Lauster has exhibited at Louise Wells Cameron Museum of Art, The Urban Center for Contemporary Art, Appalachian State University, Millennium Plaza Park, the Nicolaysen Art Museum, the John Michael Kohler Foundation and the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston. His works are in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The University of Texas at Arlington, McNeese State University and the MFA Houston.

Lauster is a 2010 recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant for Painters and Sculptors. He also received grants from the Peter Reed Foundation and the Houston Arts Allience.

This is Lauster’s third exhibit at Barry Whistler Gallery, which began representing him in 2003.
