The Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas (CCGD) is now accepting registrations for its Summer Singing Camp, which takes place June 9-13, 2014 at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, located in Dallas’s downtown arts district. Students who are currently in grades 3-7 are eligible to attend. Tuition for this program is $125. Tuition is waived for students enrolled in the Dallas Independent School District, although a refundable $25 holding fee is required. Students wishing to register for Summer Singing Camp will find the registration form located on CCGD’s website, www.thechildrenschorus.org. No audition is necessary.
Singers taking part in the Summer Singing Camp will learn eight vocal pieces over the course of a week. Students will receive more individualized instruction in smaller groups outside of rehearsal, where they will learn about vocal technique, key components of music theory, and how to play Orff instruments. Summer Singing Camp consists of two week-long, half-day sessions which culminate in a performance that is free and open to the public. The camp will be led by two members of CCGD’s artistic staff: Cynthia Nott and Kimberley Ahrens.
Established in 2003, CCGD’s Summer Singing Camp was created to provide students in the third through seventh grades with vocal instruction and performance opportunities during the summertime, as well as to give students interested in performing with CCGD during the school year the opportunity to receive training prior to their audition for the chorus. In 2007, CCGD partnered with the Dallas Independent School District and Circle of Support to provide their students with the opportunity to participate in Summer Singing Camp at no cost; through this partnership, more than 450 students have taken part in Summer Singing Camp free-of-charge, allowing CCGD to directly engage underserved and disadvantaged students.
Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas
Now celebrating its 17th season, the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas (CCGD) is one of America’s largest and most prestigious youth choral programs, and serves as the official children’s chorus of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Cynthia Nott, CCGD is dedicated to providing Dallas-area young people with opportunities to study and perform choral music at the highest level of artistic excellence, in a group that reflects the region’s ethnic and economic diversity. CCGD’s nine choral ensembles serve more than 500 children and teens in grades 4–12, drawn from 35 communities throughout a 33-mile radius of downtown Dallas. Approximately 4,500 patrons annually attend CCGD’s season concerts, held at Dallas’s world-class Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. Through ancillary regional performances, national and international tours, and community engagement initiatives—including Outreach Chorus Tours, Summer Singing Camp, and learning partnerships with the Dallas Independent School District—CCGD extends the enrichment of choral music to up to 24,000 additional children, youth, and adults each year.
