Painting with a Twist Opens in Denton Square

The historic Denton Square is about to become even more fun with the opening of a new Painting with a Twist on Thursday, June 12. Painting with a Twist is the original “Paint and Sip” franchise, where attendees are encouraged to bring snacks and drinks and have fun while a local artist guides everyone to their own paint works of art.

Tori Batey, a graduate of the University of North Texas’ Painting & Drawing Program, will be the Managing Studio Partner. She says, “I am very excited to contribute to the ever-growing Denton arts scene by adding a Painting with a Twist in the Denton Square. I love helping people discover that you don’t have to be an art student to paint art.”

Batey has a long history of helping people discover their hidden art talents. After graduating from UNT in 2007, she became an artist instructor at Painting with a Twist in Grapevine. She then moved to New York City to attend the prestigious School of Visual Arts, where she earned her Masters of Fine Arts in Painting. But, “The whole time I was in New York,” says Batey, “I just couldn’t get out of my mind how much I missed seeing the look on first-timers’ faces when they realized they created a real painting at Painting with a Twist.” In 2013, Batey moved back to Texas to open Painting with a Twist in Burleson. Now, she is bringing the paint-and-drink experience to Denton.

With B.Y.O.B. two and three-hour painting classes offered almost every afternoon and evening, Painting with a Twist will be a fun thing to do in Denton for families, couples, and college students. Restaurants, bars, a food truck park, and the A-Train are all within walking distance, so it will be easy for people all over the DFW-metroplex to have a fun day or evening painting in Denton.

The Denton studio will also have a private party room. This is a unique party venue for an adult birthday party, bachelorette party, girls’ night out, or company team-building event. All supplies and instructions are included, so everyone will leave with their own completed painting.

The Denton studio’s Grand Opening reception will be on Thursday, June 12th at 5:30–7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend, and light refreshments will be served. Painting classes will be open to the public starting on Friday, June 13th and may be reserved online now at or by calling 940–535–8205.
