The Amon Carter Museum of American Art received a Museums for America grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) for $150,000.
Thursday, September 18, 2014, was North Texas Giving Day. More than 98,000 generous Texans donated $26,339,253 to North Texas non-profits, which includes some museums and galleries. The 18-hour event surpassed the 2013 tally by more than $1 million and 23,000 donors. Art museums did not do nearly as well as the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which raised $115,324. The first Dallas Photo Walk, in conjunction with 500px Global Photo Walk, will be this Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Over two dozen photographers have signed-up via Facebook to attend the journey around Dallas Fair Park and West End. Photographers Mark D. and Mr. Holga will be walking and taking pictures with both local and out-of-town photographers. All photographers (pro, amateur, novice) and cameras (film, digital, instant) are welcome.
The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza will feature former exotic dancer Nancy Myers for their September Living History Program. Ms. Myers danced at Jack Ruby’s Carousel Club under the stage name Tammi True. Myers was one of Ruby’s girls during President Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963. Myers will discuss the shock of seeing her boss, Jack Ruby, shoot Lee Harvey Oswald on national television. Myers will be at The Sixth Floor Museum on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 2 p.m.
