Dallas Photo Walk
Dallas Fair Park and West End
Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The first Dallas Photo Walk, in conjunction with 500px Global Photo Walk, will be this Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Over two dozen photographers have signed-up via Facebook to attend the journey around Dallas Fair Park and West End. Photographers Mark D. and Mr. Holga will be walking and taking pictures with both local and out-of-town photographers. All photographers (pro, amateur, novice) and cameras (film, digital, instant) are welcome.

The Dallas Photo Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the DART Fair Park Station, right outside the Fair Park gates. There will be a quick meet and greet. Photographers will then take in the beautiful Art Deco of Fair Park. After about an hour and a half, the group will ride DART to the West End Station and continue shooting more modern Dallas landmarks and buildings. The walk will conclude at the Corner Bakers. Photographers can grab a bite to eat or continue taking pictures.

Current weather forecasts for Saturday call for a thirty percent chance of thunderstorms. The storms are expected to be later in the day. The morning should be clear enough for the event. Temperatures will be in the 90s.

All photographers, no matter their skill level, are encouraged to attend. Walkers will need to purchase a DART Local Day Pass for $5. Tickets can be purchased at any DART station. Walkers should park at one of the remote DART stations to save on downtown parking fees. Walkers should bring as many camera and media (film, instant, digital) as they can safely carry. Walkers should also wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water and maybe a snack. This event is free, so photographers are responsible for their own expenses.

Dallas Fair Park

Dallas Fair Park is home to The State Fair of Texas. The fair grounds include many Art Deco style buildings including the former Women’s Museum, automobile buildings and the Texas Hall of State. Fair Park is home to the Cotton Bowl Stadium, Texas Star Ferris Wheel, Texas Discovery Gardens and many more attractions. The fair grounds are being prepped for The Texas State Fair, some areas may not be available to photographers.

Dallas West End

Dallas West End is the heart of Dallas history. The West End includes Dealey Plaza, the former Texas School Book Depository, the grassy knoll, Reunion Tower, John F. Kennedy Memorial, the Old Red Courthouse and lots of train traffic. A few more blocks are Dallas Pioneer Plaza Cattle Drive and Dallas City Hall, a striking contract of old and new worlds.

Dallas Photo Walk

Dallas Photo Walk (although not the first event with this name) was created by photographers Mark D. of Richardson and Mr. Holga, our walkabout photographer. The two hit it off at a planned meeting and decided to do this photo walk even if they were the only two photographers in attendance. Mark is a film photographers who shoots Pentax, 35mm, instant and Holga cameras. Mr. Holga is a photographer, printmaker and painter who shoots Holga cameras, of course. Mark D. and Mr. Holga can be reached through the Dallas Photo Walk website or social media listed on the site.
