The Crow Collection of Asian Art announces the creation of The Wellness Institute directed by Jacqueline Buckingham Anderson, a wellness and lifestyle medicine advocate. The Wellness Institute aims to achieve long-term health and happiness through artistic and cultural achievements and practices of Asian culture.
The theme for the inaugural year is the Year of Practice. A different wellness principle will be highlighted each month. Principles will include from nutrition, compassion,Tibetan practices, movement, study, the art of rest, happiness and life management. Programs will have expanded classes in meditation, yoga and tai chi. Each week Wellness Wednesday 101 at noon will present various topics.
The Wellness Institute begins its Wellness Speaker Series on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at 7 p.m. The first speaker will be Dr. Carolyn Matthews, a board-certified physician in obstetrics / gynecology and gynecologic oncology. Dr. Matthews is a believer in the role of lifestyle and nutrition in the creation of best health. Tickets are $10 for non-members and free for Friends of the Crow Collection. Seating is limited.
Weekly Wellness Schedule
- Mini Meditations – Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 8:50 a.m.
- Qigong Night – Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.
- Wellness 101 – Wednesdays at noon to 1 p.m.
- Yoga in the Galleries – Thursdays from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.
- Restorative Yoga – Fridays from noon to 1 p.m.
- Tai Chi in the Galleries – Saturdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
- Family Yoga at Klyde Warren Park – Saturdays (March through October) from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
