Dallas ISD Students to Receive Honors for Achievements in the Arts

Dallas Independent School District (ISD) students will be honored by the Dallas ISD Northwest Council of PTAs, Northeast Council of PTAs and Trinity Council of PTAs. Students will be awarded for achievements in the 2014-15 Texas and National PTA Reflections arts in education program. The awards are for imagination, creativity and interpretation based on the annual theme, which was “The World Would Be A Better Place If …” Honors will be handed out on Thursday, January 29, 2015.

Monet’s Water Lilies Recreated in Nail Polish

Sally Beauty Supply and the Dallas Museum of Art have recreated Claude Monet’s Water Lilies (1908) in nail polish. This vibrant work celebrated the arrival of Sally Beauty Supply’s Nail Studio. The creation uses more than 6,600 nail polish bottles. This beautiful work is only on display tonight, January 16, 2015, from 6 p.m. to midnight. See it while you can.

Perot Museum Extends Hours for MLK Weekend

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is extending hours for the entire Martin Luther King Day weekend. Extended hours will begin Friday, January 16, and end Monday, January 19, 2015. The museum will be open until 6 p.m. on Friday through Sunday and will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. General admission is $17 for adults, $12 for seniors (65+), $11 for youth (2-17) and free for children under 2 years old.

Texas Abstract at Barry Whistler Gallery

On Saturday, Barry Whistler Gallery opens Texas Abstract in conjunction with the publication of Texas Abstract: Contemporary by Michael Paglia and Jim Edwards. The exhibit will feature six of the thirty-three artists featured in the book. The opening reception is Saturday, January 17, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m.

UT Dallas Hosts Contemporary Art Panel Discussion

The University of Texas at Dallas will host Panel Discussion on The Art Effect: Translational Ecology of Contemporary Art, a panel discussion on contemporary art and art education. The discussion will take place in the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building in the main lobby on Thursday, January 15, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Sally Beauty Supply and Dallas Museum of Art Create Monet from Nail Polish

Sally Beauty Supply and the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) have partnered to recreate Claude Monet’s Water Lilies (1908) in nail polish. To be exact, nail polish bottles. 6,600 plus nail polish bottles from top brands from Sally Beauty Supply will create the iconic work. Water Lilies in nail polish goes on display at the Dallas Museum of Art Late Night on Friday, January 16, 2015, from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Fort Worth Community Arts Center Hosts Social Media Workshop

The Fort Worth Community Arts Center (FWCAC) will present Intro to Social Media led by Matt Miller. The workshop will focus on developing a strategy for artists and how to sell artwork. Social media platforms will include Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr. The two-hour session costs $25 for Texas Artists Coalition (TAC) members and $30 for non-members. The workshop is Saturday, January 10, 2015, from 10 a.m. to noon at the FWCAC.

Amon Carter Museum of American Art Announces 2015 Exhibition Schedule

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art announced their 2015-16 exhibition schedule. Major exhibits include Indigenous Beauty: Masterworks of American Indian Art from the Diker Collection and Self-Taught Genius: Treasures from the American Folk Art Museum. Other special exhibitions include inventions by Samuel F. B. Morse, works by Remington and Russel, Texas folk art and works by artist Thomas Cole.
