The President’s Own U.S. Marine Band Brass Quintet Will Perform at SMU

“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band Brass Quintet from Washington, D.C., will give a free concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 10 in Caruth Auditorium in SMU’s Owen Arts Center, presented by the Meadows School of the Arts. The program will include Kurt Weill’s Suite from The Threepenny Opera, Monteverdi’s Four Madrigals, Darius Milhaud’s Suite française and more.

Amon Carter Museum of American Art to Renovate Building Facade; Will Remain Open During Construction

Amon Carter Museum of American Art Director Andrew J. Walker announced today that the museum is renovating parts of the building beginning February 2, 2015. The museum will remain open during the process, though some galleries will be inaccessible. School tours will continue, but no public programs or member programs are planned within the facility. The museum is also closing at 5 p.m. on Thursdays throughout the project, which is expected to last four months. All galleries are scheduled to reopen in June 2015.

Dallas Museum of Art Announces Major Exhibition of 19th-Century French Floral Still-Life Paintings

This October, the Dallas Museum of Art will present the first major U.S. exhibition to explore French floral still-life painting in the 19th century. Bouquets: French Still-Life Painting from Chardin to Matisse traces the development of the floral still life from the late 18th century through the early 20th century, emphasizing the tremendous depth and scope of creative engagement with the genre throughout this era. The exhibition will feature more than 60 paintings by more than 30 artists, including renowned figures such as Paul Cézanne, Gustave Courbet, Eugène Delacroix, Vincent van Gogh and Edouard Manet, along with less familiar contemporaries such as Simon Saint-Jean and Henri Fantin-Latour.
