Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When is the Dallas Art News Museum Express Tour?
A. The tour will be Saturday, April 3, 2010. It starts at 10 a.m. sharp at the Amon Carter Museum and ends at The Women's Museum at 5 p.m.
Q. Can elderly or young people go on this tour?
A. Elderly and young people can certainly sign-up for the tour, but they must be able to keep up with the tour. The schedule is based on the local mass transits. We do not have any control over the buses, trains or lightrails. Elderly and young people must be able to keep up with the tour guide.
Our main issue with elderly or young people is the potential for getting separated from the tour. We do not want to loose anyone, but there is great potential this will happen at some time during the tour.
Q. Can small children go on the tour?
A. No, this tour is not for small children. This is a long tour that involves a lot of walking. Also, we want everyone to have a great time, and a child will not get the same enjoyment out of this tour as an adult would.
Q. What happens if I forget to bring my lanyard with tour schedule and Regional Pass.
A. We might have a few extra lanyards with tour schedule on hand, but you will have to purchase another Regional Pass. The full price is $7.50 for each Regional Pass.
Q. How should I get to the Fort Worth Community Arts Center (FWCAC) for the start of the tour.
A. We are mailing a lanyard with tour schedule and Regional Pass to you. We suggest that you use the mass transit system to get to FWCAC. You could also drive there, but then you would have to ride the mass transit system all the way back to Fort Worth. You should check the mass transit schedules to make sure you can get there on time.
You will need to be at FWCAC by 9:30 a.m. so we can meet and discuss the tour.
Q. After the tour, how should I get home.
A. If you rode the mass transit system, then you can use it to go home. Otherwise, we commend having a friend pick you up at The Women's Museum.
Q. Why will we only be spending 15 to 20 minutes at each museum?
A. The tour has a lot of ground to cover and most of our time will be spent on The T, TRE and DART. We want to give all eight museums close to the same amount of time. Due to the TRE schedule and getting lunch delivered by Corner Bakery Cafe, we will have to make the Fort Worth side of the tour a little shorter than the Dallas side.
Some of the museums realize that our time is very short and they have offered docents to give us a quick tour or to highlight the most important works in their collection.
Q. What time does the tour start?
A. The tour officially starts at 9:30 a.m. when we all meet to discuss the tour. We will visit our first museum at 10:00 a.m.
Q. What time does the tour end?
A. The tour ends at 5:00 p.m. We should have reached The Women's Museum by then.
Q. Will the tour still go on if it is raining?
A. Yes, the tour will continue, even if it is raining. This will be part of the experience. The tour will not continue if the weather turns hazardous.
More Frequently Asked Questions will be added as they are asked.
Q. What should I wear?
A. You should wear something comfortable. This is an all day tour from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Make sure you wear some very comfortable walking shoes.
Q. Can I bring a backback or large purse?
A. No, you should not bring a backpack or large purse. Museum will request that backpacks are checked, which will take too much time. Large purses will have to be opened for security, which also takes too much time.
Q. Can I bring a camera?
A. Yes, you can bring a camera, but we suggest a small point and shoot model. Something that will fit in your pocket. We do not recommend bringing a large DLR because you will get tired of carrying it. Also, museums do not allow monopods or tripods. This tour is not a photo opportunity since we will be moving from place to place rather quickly.
Q. Can I tweet while on the tour?
A. Yes, you can tweet and Facebook while on the tour, but you must be able to keep up with the group. We should not use your electronic devices while moving from museum to museum. You must be able to keep up with the tour.
