The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs has announced a call to artists for the White Rock Lake Centennial Commemorative Sculpture project. The project is open to all professional artists not currently under contract with the City of Dallas Public Art Program or anyone currently employed by the City of Dallas. This is a gran opportunity to leave a lasting impression on our beautiful city.
The National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Blue Star Families’ Operation Appreciation will honor millions of American service members with free admission to museum across the country. Starting Friday, May 27, 2011, over 125 museums in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas will open their doors to active military personnel and their families. The Blue Star Museums program ends Sunday, September 4, 2011.
Amarillo Museum of Art (AMoA) presents the Amarillo College / West Texas A&M University Student / Faculty Exhibition March 25 through April 10, 2011. There will be an opening reception on Friday, March 25 with a Gallery Talk at 6:30 followed by a reception from 7 – 8:30. Wine and hors d’oeuvres are provided by the AMoA Alliance, the Museum’s supporting organization.
This should be no surprise to anyone in the Texas right now, but a number of museums will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, due to winter weather. Ice and snow are expected for the northern region of Texas.
Writer, producer and documentary filmmaker Todd Kent recently turned me on to his short YouTube.com video of Cadillac Ranch (1974) sponsor Stanley Marsh 3. Cadillac Ranch is a public art installation in Amarillo, Texas, consisting on ten Cadillac automobiles buried nose down with only the back half showing above ground. Mr. Kent’s seven minute video nicely documents Mr. Marsh’s ideology as an artist.
On the evening of Saturday, January 29, 2011, the Amarillo Museum of Art will host the Achievements in Art Gala, marking the opening of the fifteenth in a series of exhibitions organized by the Museum to recognize important collections and/or collectors of art. AMoA Executive Director, Dr. Graziella Marchicelli, curated this year’s exhibition – The Collector: Treasures from the Texas Panhandle – with selections from close to 50 private Panhandle area collectors.

Rock On! The Art of the Music Posters from the 60s and 70s, the summer exhibition at the Amarillo Museum of Art, will set the theme for the opening night fundraising gala on Friday, June 18, 2010. Party goers will enjoy a private viewing of original posters of the period; the opportunity to purchase authentic rock and roll memorabilia (such as a one-of-a kind handcrafted bracelet made from guitar strings played by Peter Frampton); and eat, drink and be merry with MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC. Lovers of the Grateful Dead, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, the Clash, the Who, Pink Floyd, the Talking Heads, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and their contemporaries will dance the night away while helping support AMoA’s school outreach program that serves Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle.
