Tiny Park, a new exhibition series and art space located in central Austin, will present contemporary art exhibitions, readings, and film screenings by local and national artists. The National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Blue Star Families’ Operation Appreciation will honor millions of American service members with free admission to museum across the country. Starting Friday, May 27, 2011, over 125 museums in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas will open their doors to active military personnel and their families. The Blanton Museum of Art at The University of Texas at Austin is pleased to present Storied Past: Four Centuries of French Drawings from the Blanton Museum of Art from September 18 – December 31, 2011. Organized by The Blanton, and comprising fifty-eight works drawn primarily from the museum’s Suida-Manning Collection, the exhibition explores the expressive and technical range of French drawing through preliminary sketches, compositional studies, figure studies, and finished drawings from the sixteenth through nineteenth centuries.

By popular demand, A Knitted Wonderland, the current textile installation in The Blanton Museum’s Faulkner Plaza, will remain on view an additional week, through Friday, March 25. Response to the work has been so extraordinary, museum officials and the artist Magda Sayeg decided to extend the presentation as long as possible.
