The Village at Fairview is giving its final “Wine Walk” event of 2011 an artistic spin. The shopping center will host a free “Art & Wine Walk” on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring the Andean Nations / Central America Art Expo, a touring, multi-cultural exhibit of six renowned Hispanic artists.

At Thursday’s Arts of Collin County (ACC) Board Meeting on Feb. 24, 2011, the Board of Directors directed the Executive Director and staff to present a preliminary plan and recommended process at next month’s Board meeting for potentially changing the name of the Arts of Collin County.

Lewis won a Caldecott Honor for his book Coming On Home Soon and the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for Talkin’ About Bessie. Sponsored by the Allen Public Library and the Story Book House in Dallas, this program is free.
Since the Arts of Collin County Board appointed the art selection committee in fall of 2010, the group has met to begin developing an Art Master Plan for selecting and placing new pieces of art throughout the project in; the outdoor sculpture garden, meadow, entrances, trails and interior spaces of the performing arts center such as; the lobbies, learning room, donor room, classroom and visual art gallery.
This should be no surprise to anyone in the Texas right now, but a number of museums will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, due to winter weather. Ice and snow are expected for the northern region of Texas.
Most, if not all, museums and galleries will be closed in observance of Thanksgiving, a very American holiday. We at Dallas Art News feel this to be one of the biggest misfortunes in society today. Just think of the miles and miles of art space available in Texas for walking off those extra helpings of turkey and stuffing. Consider all the things you can only enjoy and not purchase at a fine art museum. Wouldn’t it be nice to appreciate some paintings and sculptures instead of another slice of pumpkin pie?
