Stewart Smith to Speak on "The Art of Film" at the Tyler Museum of Art

Enjoy a delightful collision of film, history and pop culture during the final installment of the Tyler Museum of Art’s Spring Lecture Series featuring special guest speaker Stewart Smith, Arts and Entertainment Editor for the Tyler Morning Telegraph, on Tuesday, May 24. “Let’s Go to the Movies: The Art of Film and Progression of Pop Culture” will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Jean Browne Theatre located on the Tyler Junior College Campus. Thrills, Chills, and Movie Stills at the Tyler Museum of Art

Heroes and villains from the silver screen collide with some of history’s most colorful characters in Remember When: Marvels and Memories from the Collection of Dr. James Clark. The exhibition will be on view at the Tyler Museum of Art from May 8 – August 14, 2011 and is the sixth exhibition in the “Tyler Collects” series, organized by the Museum to showcase private collections belonging to residents of Tyler. The exhibition comprises over 300 objects ranging from vintage movie posters to historic memorabilia collected by Dr. Clark, who is a reconstructive plastic surgeon in Tyler. This exhibition was organized by the Tyler Museum of Art, and admission is free.

Tyler Museum of Art Announces New Building Project Details

Members of the Tyler Museum of Art’s new museum project team of architects continue to make both national and international headlines. Earlier this month, the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky opened an exhibition titled Unveiling the New Speed: A Model of the Future designed to showcase its $79 million expansion led by TMA project architects, wHY Architecture. Doug Reed of Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architects was awarded the esteemed Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome. Reed Hilderbrand was chosen by the TMA to design plans for the new museum project in 2008.

A Legacy of Love and Freedom Unfolds at the Tyler Museum of Art

The Tyler Museum of Art is proud to present a selection of oil paintings by the acclaimed Sedrick Huckaby, a contemporary Texas artist who uses thick, impasto paint to create shape-shifting quilt murals, evocative of tradition, family, and faith. The exhibition, A Legacy of Love and Freedom: Quilt Paintings by Sedrick Huckaby, includes a selection of the artist’s most recent works, on view April 17 through July 3, 2011 in the Museum’s Bell Gallery. Simply stated, Huckaby paints his grandmother’s handmade quilts, but upon the large canvases, the folding images are a soothing complexity of form and meaning.

For The Eyes of Emperors: Tyler Museum of Art Lecture to Reveal the Art of the Dragon Throne

Artworks created to dazzle the eyes of Chinese emperors will be the focus of the second Spring Lecture presented by the Tyler Museum of Art. Tyler Museum of Art Kicks-off New Year with First Friday Art Tour of The Tile Club

Visitors will enjoy a free, guided First Friday Art Tour of the Tyler Museum of Art’s exhibition titled “Studiously Slangy and Bohemian” The Tile Club­–Artists of America’s Aesthetic Movement from the Graham Williford Collection beginning at 11 a.m. at the Museum on Friday, January 7. The tour, guided by a member of the TMA education staff, will last under an hour and will feature selected works from the Tile Club exhibition. First Friday Art Tours are offered free of charge every first Friday of the month, and there is no admission fee for this exhibition.
